SEO Hove - Page Rank

Larry Page and Serge Brin; the founders of Google, divised a special way of counting all these links, called PageRank. PageRank is the basis of Google and how it works. The maths and science behind pagerank, is quite complicated, but in a nutshell, it is an algorythmn that calculates all the links on the internet. It then gives a score to a webpage, based on the amount of links that website page is receiving. It works by both assessing the links to that webpage and from that webpage. A link to a webpage is called a backlink. But be aware all links are not the same.

This is a very important point to remember when link building. For example: If I have 10 links pointing at a webpage and 1 link from that webpage, that one link is going to be very powerful. If I have 1 link to a webpage and 10 links from that webpage, those 10 links will not be very powerful.

Trading Links - can be a lengthy process..

Thank you for your interest in exchanging links

As you can appreciate we get many requests like yours and due to time and staffing constraints it is not sustainable for us to continually add links to our site as ongoing maintenance is not always possible. Therefore, in order for us to determine if we will add a link to your site from ours, we ask you to provide us with some additional information:

Please do a thorough review of the content all the links currently listed on the web page you’re interested in and provide us with some reasons and where possible, some statistics, on why you believe we should include your link. Things to consider:
- What is different or unique about your site when compared to the others?
- What services and / or resources do you provide that the others don’t?
- Why would our customers be interested in your site?
- How may hits does your site attract each week/month/year?

I trust you understand our need to request this data and hope you are able to provide the information as soon as is practical so we can make a decision on whether to include a link to your site or not.

Thanks,

how many h1 h2 h3

Use a single keyword rich H1 header on your page containing the same primary keyword phrases. This helps reinforce the page title.

Use keyword rich subheaders (H2 or H3) only one of each per page (one – h1, one – h2, one h3). This improves usability and helps define what the page is about to search engines, without making the page look like it was written for a search engine.

seo title tag

Use your keywords in your page title. Place the most important keyword phrase at the beginning of the page title. Do not put your site title on every page of your site unless you are really trying to brand that name. In that scenario it still is usually best to place the site name at the end of the pages.

• If you use graphic navigation:

o Use descriptive alt text for your image links.
o Link to your primary pages from every page of your site using footer text links.

• Use keyword rich breadcrumb navigation to help search engines understand the structure of your site. eg: home page link(use keywords in it) > level 1 > level 2 > page you are on

• Use a site map to help search engines spider through your site. this can be both dynamic xml and static html

• Whenever possible use descriptive keyword text when linking between pages of your site.

• Link to other resources that improve your users experience.

• Use CSS to improve the look and feel of your pages.

Are Meta Tags Important?

Meta tags are important.

The meta description should be no longer than 2 sentences long describing the page contents. This appears as the google description. The meta description tag can be seen in the Google search results so you want to make it as appealing and interesting as possible. The meta description tag should contain multiple keywords organised in a logical and readable, sentence. Avoid repeating keywords more than 3-6 times in your meta description, otherwise Search Engines may view your site to be employing keyword stuffing methods and it will downgrade it to spam.

The meta keywords tag should contain misspellings and synonyms. Each keyword phrase in the keywords tag should be comma separated, in groups of three so ideally contain 9-12 words.

Are Paid Links Evil?

To be honest i don’t think so…  If paid links were evil then yahoo directory would be bombed as would the yellow pages. Link Farms are they evil? Well yes, websites with just links to other sites are completley pointless from a directory prespective as well as point of use…
