PageRank Algorithm No Longer Counting Internal Nofollow Links

Pagerank is the way of counting the links that every website has pointing at it from another website. Every link is a vote and the more votes you get, the higher up in the Search Engines you will be. Using a rel=”nofollow” is handy way of keeping your pagerank on site.As every link transfers pagerank to another a website, sometimes you want to link to other websites without loosing any of your pagerank. Rel=”nofollow” is a handy way of keeping your pagerank onsite. Using a rel=”nofollow” used to work for demoting pages on your website, you did not want to appear high up in Google. Say you had an offer page which is out of date, you could link to it with a rel=”nofollow”, which would contain the pagrank within linking to page. However it looks like Google has changed its algorithm, so that Google disregards whether a link has a rel=”nofollow” on internal links. Read Rand Fishkin’s blog post here at SEOmoz.

CAPITALS Capitals or capitals

For Google it does matter whether you use capital letters, as you can see with this furniture hire test:

as you can see the results swap, 4 and 5 both interchange with each other. When you spell furniture with a capital F the website with the title tag; “Furniture hire” goes higher up, and with a lower case f, the website with the title tag; “furniture hire” goes higher up. Consequently writing title tags in lower case, would more accurately reflect the way people type into search engines, although your results will look fairly manky in Google, if phrases are not capitalized in the correct way. Prolly best to write them in Capitals as it will be more eye catching and the power of this over say getting 3 or four links would be negligible.

Title Tags - Repetition of Keywords

Should there be more than 1 keyword repeated in your title tag? Not the most important thing to think about - but I believe you can get away with 2 - 3 occurances of the same keyword. 3 would be no where near ideal and if you have to use a third make it plural. Some suggest using keywords only once, for example: http://www.whitehatseo.com, the page has been built with strict wc3 guides in mind, as has the title tag “White Hat SEO”, where there is only one occurance of the each seed keywords. Indeed it could even be argued that your title tag should not be limited to manipulation for SEO but what the page is completley and succinctly about. e.g. White Hat SEO.

Concering page titles, there are two schools of thought, one which asserts that each keyword search term or phrase can be specifically repeated in the title, and the other; where there should only be one occurance of each keyword ordered to make the best phrase, with the first word most important and decreasing there after.

Keyword Phrases Comma Meta-Tags

When writing your meta-tags is it best to use a comma? well there’s alot of huff and puff that goes on about this but no real answer.. my answer is the write your meta tags the same way that people w ould write a search term. I believe that Google views a comma or a pipe inbetween keyword phrases, as a break between that keyword search term. So… what i mean by this is if you write your meta tags as “search optimization brighton, internet marketing sussex, seo sussex” is much better than  ”search, optimization, brighton, internet ,marketing, sussex, seo, sussex” or “search optimization brighton internet marketing sussex seo sussex” or “search optimization, brighton internet, marketing sussex seo sussex”. Google is clever enough to work out that a comma or a pipe | delineates a phrase (search term) and gives weight if you do add them.
